Study Abroad (Student Study Abroad)

Once you have decided to be a dispatched student

From the decision to study abroad to the departure

  1. Understand the situation of the destination country
    Register for "Tabiregi".
    Understand the status of the dispatched country on the websites of consulates and embassies dispatched to Japan.
    ※ We will not neglect to check the status of the destination country until we leave.
  2. Make a plan for the future.
    ①Check the courses you have taken.
    ② Confirm the subjects (units) to be acquired before graduation.
    ③ Check the courses that can be taken at the host university.
    ④ Students must register for courses to be acquired before departure.
  3. Acquire documents to prove the language level required to take at the host university.
    Submit your language level certificate to the destination 3 to 4 months before you start your study abroad program.
    If you have not reached the required language skills by that date, you will not be able to study abroad.
  4. I feel well.
    If you have a chronic illness, consult with your doctor and make a treatment plan while studying abroad.
    Complete dental treatment. (The treatment of tooth decay and wisdom teeth is terminated.)
  5. Make a plan for studying abroad.
    Calculate the expenses required for studying abroad and consult with your family about the payment method.
    If you wish to borrow a scholarship from the Japan Student Services Organization, apply by the deadline.
  6. Housing
    If you are currently living in an apartment, consult with your family about the handling of apartments you are studying abroad and arrange them.
  7. Part-time job
    If you are working part-time, consult with your part-time job about your retirement time.
    ※ As a general rule, you will not be able to work part-time in your country.
  8. Attend a briefing session for study abroad students every month.
  9. Develop a global mission program plan.
  10. Apply for study abroad at the host university.
    Apply for the issuance of English transcripts. (3 to 4 months before the start of study abroad)
  11. Consult with the faculty in charge of seminars (specialized exercises I and II) about guidance during study abroad.
  12. Apply for a study abroad visa. (After receiving a study abroad permit from the host university)
    ※Preparing to apply for a visa will begin after submitting an application for study abroad to the host university.
  13. Arrange air tickets for travel.
  14. Departure procedures at the university.
    ① Take out overseas study insurance (international travel insurance) accompanying Gakken disaster. (Required)
    ②You will be required to apply for a scholarship.
    ③ Submit “Departure Notification (Prescribed Form)”.
    ④ Submit the “Contact Notification during Study Abroad (Prescribed Form)”.
  15. Consult with Career Center Division about job hunting during and after returning to Japan.
  16. I'll give you a greeting. (University, seminar teachers, etc.)

From the start of study abroad to the return of Japan

  1. Download and register the i-search app of Japan ILack.
  2. I will inform you that you have arrived safely at the host university.
    (Parents, seminar teachers, International Exchange Center, etc.)
  3. Check the emergency contact information.
    Numbers of police and ambulances in the destination country, collect call methods, etc.
  4. Apply for a "Resident Registration" to the Consulate General (Japanese diplomatic mission abroad).
  5. Always collect information on personal safety and the world situation.
    Understand the status of the dispatched country on the website of the Japanese embassy or consulate in the dispatched country.
    ※ We will not neglect to confirm the situation in the country where we are dispatched.
  6. Keep in close contact with International Exchange Center, etc. of the host university.
  7. When visiting a country other than the country where the host university is located, or temporarily returning to Japan while studying abroad.
    ① Perform the procedure for “Re-entry Permit” in the destination country.
    ➁ Submit “Travel Notification (Prescribed Form)” and “Temporary Return Notification (Prescribed Form)”.
  8. They are active at the host university.
    Actively conduct Osamu Gaku, deepen understanding, and strive to achieve good results.
    We are committed to the Global Mission Program.
    Actively participate in club activities, international exchange events, volunteer activities, etc.
  9. Make a monthly report to International Exchange Center. (Monthly)

Immediately before returning to Japan

  1. Make various payments. (Rent, mobile phone price, Internet usage fee, etc.)
  2. If you have opened a bank account locally, you must complete the account cancellation procedure.
  3. Receive 3 transcripts or request mail from the host university.
    (1 copy for dispatch student course report, 1 copy for credit conversion, for individual)
    ※ If there is a grade slip for each semester, two copies are required.
    ※ In order to apply for credit compatibility, a syllabus for each subject is required.
  4. Report the return schedule to the Japanese family.
  5. Submit “Return Notification (prescribed form)” and return flight information to International Exchange Center.
  6. Tell the people who took care of you and return home so that you don't forget anything.

After returning to Japan

  1. I would like to report that I have returned home safely. (International Exchange Center, teacher in charge of seminar, etc.)
  2. Submit the “Temporary Student Course Report (Prescribed Form)” and one “Transcript” issued by the host university. (Submission to International Exchange Center -within 2 weeks after returning to Japan)
  3. Answer the "Return Questionnaire" for returnees and submit data on your study abroad experience (up to 1,200 characters) and photos taken during your study abroad program. (Submission to International Exchange Center -within 4 weeks after returning to Japan)
  4. Submit the “Credit Certification Application Form (Prescribed Form)”, the “Transcript” of the host university, and the syllabus of the subjects taken at the host university.

     Application deadline: Dispatched international students departed from August to September (for one year study abroad) Around August 30
     Application deadline: Dispatched international students departing from February to March (for one year study abroad) Around 30 January
    ※One of the important objectives of studying abroad is to acquire credits at the host university. Please be sure to complete the credit certification procedure by the deadline.
  5. Make a course plan after returning to Japan.
  6. I will consult with you about future job hunting. (Career Center Division)
  7. Students will present their experiences at the study abroad experience presentation.
  8. Report the results at the Global Mission Program Report Meeting.
