We have appointed Shimonoseki City University Chair. 62 years since Shimonoseki Commercial Junior College was opened as a four-year university, and 17 years since it became a public university, we will do our utmost to further develop our university, with the weight of history and tradition.

By the way, Japan has already shifted to a full-scale population-declining society, and the 18-year-old population has almost halved since peaking in 1992. In addition, the wave of technological evolution and globalization increases its height, and the world is only increasing uncertainty with endless conflicts and new infections. These trends are, inevitably, demanding change from universities, and even in local public universities, no exception.
Under these circumstances, we have been working as a university in Faculty of Economics for a long time, but Faculty of Data Science joined in April 2024 and Faculty of Nursing joined in April 2025.

With a new university brand concept, we will promote interdisciplinary and diverse education and research through the fusion of three different fields of economy, data science, and nursing, and aim to solve social issues and contribute to the community while reconsidering the significance of Shimonoseki City University in Shimonoseki City.
