I want to be a university that continues to climb the slope to become a prestigious university that is world-class.

Now Shimonoseki City University is on the path to becoming a world-class prestigious university.

In this era when the speed of change is intense and expectations and anxiety about the AI society mixes, the university continues to take on various challenges with a view to what universities should do and what students living in the future can do.

With the opening of the Faculty of Nursing in fiscal 2025, we are about to become a comprehensive university. In addition, we have started new initiatives one after another based on regional and industry-academia-government collaborations over the past few years and the conclusion of international academic exchange agreements with prestigious universities around the world (France: Bordeaux Montigne University, US: San Francisco State University, etc.). In fiscal 2024, we established joint courses in collaboration with Yakult Honsha Co., Ltd., started joint research with Shimonoseki City and Yamaguchi Financial Group, Inc., and are preparing to obtain a PhD in International Collaboration using an international network in fiscal 2025.

In the 2024 entrance examination, which welcomes students in the first year of the opening of Faculty of Data Science, we recorded top-class applicants ratio at national and public universities. In addition, the university ranked first in the nationwide ranking of "small but highly evaluated universities" in the 2023 University Communication Online, which is evaluated by high school teachers, achieved the second place in the Chugoku and Shikoku districts, and has received high praise from outside the university, including winning the highest ranking in the Chugoku and Shikoku districts rankings over the past five years as a "comfortable university". On campus, satisfaction with university life has been increasing as a result of reforms that have been promoted since FY2021 under the “Student-first principle”. In the 2023 student questionnaire, we were happy to see that learning acquisition improved from 30% to 70% and learning satisfaction increased from 50% to 80% compared to before the reform.

Ryotaro Shiba's work entitled "Clouds on the Slope" is a novel set in Japan that catches up with Meiji period and Western countries and is developing, meaning "If a white cloud of a lobes shines in the blue sky above the rising slope, it will look only at it and go up the slope. In the near future, I would like to become a university that is said to be "Shimonoseki City University in Japan" and continue to climb the slope toward a prestigious university that is world-class.
