Characteristics of Learning in Faculty of Economics

Learning to expand future possibilities

Shimonoseki City University Faculty of Economics is a major national and public university in Faculty of Economics, with a variety of subjects related to economics, business administration and commerce. From a wide range of elective courses, you can take the courses you need and the courses you want to learn.

Specifically, you will learn the basic subjects (basics of majors) of each department in the first and second years, and then select and study the subjects you want to learn from the applied subjects (mains application) of each department. You are free to study subjects in a wide range of fields, broaden your horizons, or intensively study specific specialties. You can also study specialized subjects from other departments and increase your number of language courses. In the 3rd and 4th year specialized exercises (seminars), you can choose a teacher belonging to another department as your supervisor and work on your graduation thesis.


Learning to broaden the horizons of the world

We aim to learn from Shimonoseki to East Asia and even the world. Department of Economics and Department of International Commerce have many subjects related to international and East Asia so that they can deepen their understanding of international relations.

In Faculty of Economics, you can take Korean and Chinese as the first foreign language in addition to English. Located in Shimonoseki, which has developed as a port city, our university has an exchange agreement with universities around the world. Through training and study abroad programs, students also have opportunities to further enhance their language skills and international perspectives.


Open post-graduation options

Faculty of Economics aims to acquire knowledge and skills related to the economy, society, and companies that can be utilized in various fields, as well as the ability and awareness of social independence. After graduation, career paths extend not only to financial institutions and trading companies, but also to various industries and occupations.


3 department system and 3 department aspiration system

There are three departments: Department of Economics, a deep study of economics, Department of International Commerce, a deep study of commerce and business administration, and Department of Public Management, a study of economics, commerce and business administration.

Students belong to one of the departments, but there are many subjects that are common to multiple departments, and students can take subjects from other departments. Part of the entrance examination category (School Recommendation type selection (nationwide / region B) and the first half of the general selection period) has introduced a three-course application system. You can apply for the subjects of the second or third choice, and after enrollment, you can take the subjects you want to learn from other subjects.
