About Scholarships
Scholarships are designed to help motivated and capable students pursue their dreams independently, independently, with their own will and responsibility, without giving up on their studies for economic reasons.
Before applying for a scholarship
Step 1: Understand your family’s economic situation: How much do you need in a month or a year?
First, assume university life and calculate monthly or annual income and expenditure.

Calculate the amount you really need after comparing your income and expenditure. Of course, scholarships are required to be returned after graduation from university, and you are responsible for them. Let's keep it at an amount that compensates for the difference in income and expenditure.
Step 2: Understand the Types of Scholarships: Find the Right Scholarship for You

Scholarships can be broadly divided into "benefit type" and "lent type". As a general rule, "benefit type" scholarships are not required to be returned (return may be required). On the other hand, "lending-type" scholarships are required to be returned at the same time as graduation from university (end of loan), and will be returned over a certain period of time. "Lending type" is further classified into interest-free type and interest-bearing type. At present, there are few organizations that implement the benefit type, and the examination is difficult.
Organizations that implement the scholarship system are broadly divided into the Japan Student Services Organization, local governments, and private scholarship organizations. The Japan Student Services Organization, a national scholarship program, is the most widely used scholarship in Japan. On the other hand, scholarships for "local governments" and "private scholarship organizations" tend to have interest-free and benefit types, but the number of employees tends to be small.
Depending on each organization, the presence or absence of refunds, interest, and loan monthly amount vary. Find out the characteristics of each organization and find a scholarship that suits your wishes.
Step 3: Understand how to apply - prepare necessary documents -
Before applying, please read the application guidelines carefully and check the following items.
- 1.Do you meet the application qualifications, grades, household standards, etc. set by each organization?
Scholarships of local governments are often limited to those from each municipality, and age restrictions may be set. - 2.When is the deadline for recruitment?
It is often April to May, but some organizations do it before entering university. - 3.Where will the application process be done?
Basically, there are many things that are done at the window of each organization, but some are done at universities. - 4.What are the required documents?
The documents to be submitted differ depending on each organization. Some documents (such as proof of income) take some time to order, so please prepare early.
After paying attention to the above points, prepare the required documents without any deficiency and apply by the deadline.
Scholarship Q&A
- Q
What kind of scholarship do you have?
- A
Scholarships can be broadly divided into "benefit type (return not required)" and "lending type (return obligation occurs at the same time as graduation)". In addition, there are two types of "lending type": interest-free type and interest-bearing type.
As for the types of scholarships, in addition to the Japan Student Services Organization Scholarship, which is a national scholarship project, local governments (such as the Board of Education) and private organizations have established their own scholarship programs.
- Q
What are the most widely used scholarships?
- A
This is the Japan Student Services Organization Scholarship, a national scholarship program.
- Q
When is the recruitment time?
- A
I’m focused on April.
[Japan Student Services Organization]
We are recruiting students in April every year. An application briefing will be held in early April, so if you wish to receive a scholarship or are considering it, please be sure to participate. In addition, there is a reservation recruitment system that applies for scholarships before entering university (when attending high school). For more information, please contact the high school you are enrolled in.[Scholarships for Local Governments and Private Organizations]
Although it depends on each group, it is concentrated in March to May. For more information, please contact your preferred organization. - Q
Where do I apply for the application?
-
A
It will be held at the window of universities, high schools, and organizations.
[Japan Student Services Organization]
Students will be hired at the university window after entering the university.
Reservation recruitment will be performed at the high school where you are enrolled in the third year of high school.[Scholarships for Local Governments and Private Organizations]
As a general rule, each person will do it at the counter of each organization.
(If there is a request for recruitment from the University, we will inform you on the bulletin board each time.) - Q
Is it possible to pay the Japan Student Services Organization Scholarship and other scholarships such as local governments?
-
A
There are many organizations that are not allowed to pay together.
The Japan Student Services Organization does not prohibit co-payment with scholarships for other organizations, but many organizations other than the Japan Student Services Organization prohibit co-payment. For more information, please contact your preferred organization.
- Q
If the conditions such as household income and academic ability are met, will they always be hired?
-
A
It may not be accepted.
It is premised that the conditions and standards set by each organization are met, but even if it is met, it may not be adopted due to budget and recruitment frame.
- Q
This year's recruitment is over, but I really needed a scholarship. Do you have to wait until next year’s recruitment?
-
A
If the household budget changes suddenly due to unemployment, bankruptcy, accident, illness or death of the livelihood maintainer, disaster such as fire, storm and flood damage, etc., and if a scholarship is urgently needed, we will recruit at any time. Please consult with the support group.
- Q
How much is the total return and return period?
-
A
It depends on the scholarship organization, loan amount, interest rate, etc.
For the Japan Student Services Organization Scholarship, you can estimate the total refund amount, monthly installment refund amount, number of repayments, etc. at the "Scholarship Loan / Return Simulation" site below. Please take advantage of it.
- Q
Will the scholarship be cancelled on the way?
-
A
It may be abolished due to poor academic performance.
Scholarships are loaned (benefits) to excellent students who have difficulty studying for financial reasons. If the acquisition credits are significantly small or if they retire, the scholarship will be "abolished" and the transfer will be suspended. The scholarship student's qualifications will be lost. Please note that return may be demanded in the case of a payment scholarship.
In addition, if you violate the rules set by each organization, the recruitment will be canceled or the loan (benefit) will be discontinued. Please read the rules carefully and be aware of it as a scholarship student.
