Reduction of scholarships and tuition fees

Privately financed international students studying at Shimonoseki City University have the opportunity to receive various scholarships and a tuition reduction system so that they can concentrate on learning.

Scholarships, etc. (Private Foreign Students)

In addition to the Japan Student Services Organization, local governments, public interest corporations, etc. have established scholarship programs for undergraduate and graduate students. International Exchange Center provides the following information:

In addition, in principle, scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students can be applied and received only for those who have a status of residence "Student".

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to international students.

1. International Student Learning Encouragement Fee
(1) Amount 48,000 yen/month x 12 months (April to March next year)

(2) Date of application Submission deadline Early May (posted in April)
(3) On-campus procedures Based on the application form and results, an interview will be conducted on campus as necessary to determine the recommender.

2. International Student Study Incentive Fee (Special Addition 6 months)
(1) Amount 48,000 yen/month x 6 months (October to the following March)
48,000 yen/month x 6 months (October to March next year)
(2) Date of application Deadline of submission late September (posted in early September)
(3) On-campus procedures Based on the application form and results, an interview will be conducted on campus as necessary to determine the recommender.

Reduction of tuition fees

For privately financed international students who have good academic performance and are expected to be able to graduate or complete the shortest enrollment period and whose total household income is less than the standard amount specified separately, there is a system to reduce or exempt the amount equivalent to one half of the tuition fee.

Application deadline for submission in mid-January for the previous fiscal year
The deadline for submission of notices in early July for the second half of August

Application documents

  1. Application for reduction of taxes (Form No. 1 prescribed by the University)
  2. Proof of household composition (original) 1 copy  ※Students of Chinese nationality are limited to "notarized certificates".
  3. Income certificate (original) from January to December of the previous year  ※For all households
  4. We may ask you to submit other documents deemed necessary by Chair.

How to apply

Submit the required documents to Shimonoseki City University International Exchange Center by the deadline.

Notice of Decision on Tuition Reduction

Notice will be given in writing in early April of the previous fiscal year.
We will notify you in writing in the second half of October.

Tuition due date

April 26 for the previous fiscal year
Late October 26

If you are unable to pay your tuition by the due date due to financial reasons or other unavoidable circumstances, you may apply for a partial payment or deferral of collection. However, it is necessary to observe the application period and submit the application documents.
