Learning in Department of Public Management
Acquire the ability to think about public issues along with knowledge of economics and business administration and commerce
Traditional economics has regarded economic actors, such as consumers and companies, as actors who act "passively" in response to changes in policies and society. In this way, we have considered universal laws concerning the decision-making of economic actors and the effects of various policy instruments, and have tried to make use of them in the creation of a better society.
However, people and companies, which are economic actors, are also parties that influence policy formation and social changes. Our daily choices, such as what policies we support and what products we consume, will determine the future society. And by touching new knowledge and values, we can turn our choices into “active.” For this reason, it is now expected that various people and organizations, not limited to the government, will play a role as public leaders.
In Department of Public Management, you will learn various fields related to the public, such as law, politics and administration, in addition to economics, business administration, and commerce. In this way, you will acquire the ability to think about social issues and solutions from a broad perspective and standpoint.

Kouki Saito (from Ube Chuo High School, Yamaguchi Prefectural School)
Since high school, I have been interested in how to solve local issues such as "shotter town conversion of shopping streets". I entered Department of Public Management at Shimonoseki City University because I can explore solutions to regional issues through fieldwork. In fact, after enrollment, you can proceed with learning while paying attention to public matters and deepen your knowledge. In addition to classes focusing on public organizations and activities, such as "Non-Profit Organization Theory", there are many classes on the region, so I myself can learn in detail with specific examples such as regional issues and regional policies. It was very meaningful.
I'm also focusing on extracurricular activities. He belongs to the circle called SCU-Local Attraction Dispersion Corps-and conducts activities to convey the appeal of the region through events utilizing cultural properties of Shimonoseki City, and also participates in volunteer activities at elementary schools to enliven the region. In the future, I would like to work to make use of the knowledge I gained in class and this experience. Shimonoseki City is now facing the challenge of young people leaking to neighboring areas. I hope that young people will be aware of the local attractions and work on activities that will make them want to stay.

Administrative Law
Let's take a look at everyday life. Get on a moped bike and buy medicine at a drugstore. I see a signboard with letters written at the construction site on the way. Have you ever had that experience? Also, can you live quietly at home without the noise of the factory? In fact, the government is involved too. The administration is integrated in everyday life.
Under administrative law, you will learn various administrative activities and the rules related to them. Learning the administrative law may increase your daily resolution a little.
