On December 26, 2024 (Thursday), we held a joint press conference on "Promotion of Joint Research on Population Issues through Industry-Government-Academia Collaboration" by the Yamaguchi Economic Research Institute, Yamaguchi Financial Group, Shimonoseki City and TUFS in the large conference room on the west wing of Shimonoseki City Hall Main Government Building, 5th floor.

　At the press conference, Vice President Suga gave an overview of the research results related to demographics and child-rearing in FY2023, as well as future joint research initiatives.

　President Han, President Nishimura of Yamaguchi Economic Research Institute, Executive Officer Murata of Yamaguchi Financial Group, Inc. (General Manager of Growth Strategy Division), and Mayor Maeda, Shimonoseki-shi.

　President Han talked about the two significances of this joint research: the challenge of population decline, which is a global issue in developed countries, industry, government, academia and money as one unit, and the fact that the university became a comprehensive university, has become able to take on interdisciplinary challenges using knowledge that could not be achieved at a single university.

　In the future, in order to solve the problem of population decline and declining birthrate and aging population in Shimonoseki City, we will take an approach to solving issues through cooperation between industry, government, academia and government, and through research, we will work to solve local issues in Shimonoseki City. We aim to develop the implementation of effective initiatives. In the long run, we would like to challenge ourselves from research based on the characteristics of Shimonoseki City to becoming a global research.
