~“Contemporary Silk Road” carrying the dreams of young people ~Kyrgyz Japan Academic Research Center, which is a bridge to the future, launched

Opening ceremony of Kyrgyz Japan Center for Academic Research

On September 2, 2025, the opening ceremony of the Kyrgyz Japan Academic Research Center, jointly established by the university and Shimonoseki City University, was held at the Kyrgyz National Agricultural University in Bishkek, the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The ceremony was attended by many guests and university officials, including President HAN Changwan of Shimonoseki City University, Risbek Nurgajiev President of Kyrgyz National Agricultural University, Hideki Aida of the Embassy of Japan in Kyrgyzstan, and Kotaro Nishikata, Director of the Kyrgyz Republic Office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). We celebrated the birth of a new academic base together.

In his congratulatory address, President Han quoted the Kyrgyz national epic Manas, saying:
"Friendship, like a tree rooted in the earth, endures the snow and grows lush over time. This word symbolizes the new friendship that is united here today."

In addition, the president expressed three wishes. First, the Center should serve as a bridge between Japan and Kyrgyzstan through academic exchange and joint research. Second, it will support young Kyrgyzstan employees to expand opportunities to learn in Japan and return to the development of the country. Third, he expressed his hopes for becoming a "modern Silk Road" that realizes the dreams of youth and a bridge to the future.

Kyrgyz National Agricultural University is a prestigious national university established in 1932, one of the leading republic universities in Kyrgyzstan. He has been involved in a wide range of education and research, including agriculture, veterinary medicine, economics, data science, and environmental sciences, and has been conducting important international research, including the development of sustainable agricultural technologies and the response to climate change. The establishment of this center will serve as a new base for international development of the university's efforts.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, President Han said, “I believe that this research center will be invaluable not only for both universities, but also for students and communities who will bear the future of both countries,” and prayed that the friendship and academic cooperation between Japan and Kyrgyzstan will continue to develop across generations.

The opening of this center is a symbolic step in education and research cooperation between the two countries, and is attracting attention as a new base that contributes to sustainable agriculture and the resolution of environmental problems.
