On November 6, 2025, Shimonoseki City University signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Indonesia's prestigious national university, Universitas Brawijaya (UB), signed by both President.
Brawi Djaja University is a comprehensive university established in 1963 with 60,000 students in Malang, East Java. It has 18 faculties and is known as one of Indonesia's most prestigious schools in terms of education and research.
At the signing ceremony, representatives from both universities gave a speech and expressed their hope that the agreement will bring new opportunities for academic and cultural exchanges to both students and faculty members.
The University of Brawi Djaja stated, "This partnership opens a new path for knowledge sharing and collaboration among students and researchers, and marks the beginning of a long-term relationship." Shimonoseki City University expressed his desire to deepen cooperation with Indonesia with the aim of solving regional issues and developing global human resources."
Following the conclusion of the MOU, discussions were held on the conclusion of the Academic Cooperation Agreement (MOA), which focuses on three fields: going to graduate school, exchange study abroad, and joint research.
The two universities have agreed to work together to conclude MOA at undergraduate and graduate schools, and plan to promote collaboration in fields such as agriculture, tourism, data science, and humanities.
The conclusion of this agreement is a major step toward expanding the international education and research network in Asia, and it is expected that substantial academic and human exchange between the two universities will be deepened in the future.
