On October 19, 2013 (Saturday), the 6th Whale Reference Room Symposium: The forefront of whale research-from dolphins to large whales-was held in the large conference room on the 5th floor of the main building of Shimonoseki City University. Three instructors invited from outside the university gave research reports, and about 50 people participated. After the session, there was a lively question-and-answer session, and the symposium was fruitful. The event was hosted by Sou Ishikawa, Director of the Whale Laboratory of the Shimonoseki Academy of Marine Science and Technology.
In the research report, Professor Masao Amano of the Graduate School of Fisheries and Environmental Science, Nagasaki University, gave a presentation on the ecology of whales, entitled "Field Research and Results of Wild Whales". In addition, Koji Matsuoka, Director of the Observation and Research Laboratory of the Research Research Department of the Japan Whale Research Institute, and Riki Tamura, Director of the Marine Ecosystem Laboratory of the Research Research Department, gave presentations based on the data obtained by actually boarding the survey vessel, and the participants listened enthusiastically to the latest research reports.
