On October 10, 2025, the delegation of Shimonoseki City University officially visited **University of Siena** in Italy. This visit follows the MoU signing ceremony at the "EDU Day" held at the Expo Italy Hall in Osaka in May of the same year.

Founded in 1240, the University of Siena is one of the oldest universities in Europe and is internationally acclaimed in the fields of humanities and social sciences, law, economics and medical sciences.

In this visit, in addition to deepening academic exchange, discussions were held on university-based ventures and expansion of industry-academia collaboration with local companies. In particular, multifaceted cooperation that integrates culture and technology is expected, such as the development of new sake and wine through the exchange of yeast between an Italian wine brewing company and a brewing company in Shimonoseki, and the creation of new products through the collaboration of traditional crafts.

In addition, we discussed the possibility that the biochemical technology fields such as the development of soap made by recycling chestnut peels and potatoes and beer injected with silicon, as well as business development and joint research, in collaboration with the University of Siena and Shimonoseki City University.

The relationship with the University of Siena will play an increasingly important role in the future as a new model of international cooperation that transcends academics and develops regional economies and cultures.
