On the evening of June 7, 2013 (Friday), the Turkish Ambassador to Japan Serdar Kurch and his wife paid a courtesy call to Mayor Tomoaki Nakao Shimoseki. Students from Shimonoseki City University, who are dispatching students to Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, also attended and gave a greeting.

Ms. Mika Nishida, who had been studying in Boğaziçi University for one year, and Mizuki Toi, who is planning to study abroad for one year from September this year.

Mayor Nakao introduced the two to Ambassador Kurch and gave a speech in Turkish. In particular, the conversation was exciting about the common points between Istanbul and Shimonoseki. Mr. Kurch praised him with humor, saying, "It's a Turkish language that's much better than my Japanese." In addition, the ambassador's wife said, "Please have a lot of good experiences in studying in Turkey in the future."
