Circle "Japan Heritage Exploration Q Meeting" conducted the fourth fieldwork survey on the Roku Islands in Shimonoseki City for the completion of the "Roku Islands Map" on Rokure Island.

On June 25, 2018 (Monday), seven members of the Japan Heritage Exploration Q Society and one faculty member of TUFS conducted their fourth fieldwork as a final survey for the creation of the "Roku Islands Map" on June 25, 2018 (Monday). Rokuren Island is famous for flower cultivation, but this time we also surveyed food culture, including food processing. Now is the time of sea urchin fishing, I was able to observe how bottling and actually sampled regional cuisine.

In the morning survey, we had the chairman of the self-government also worked hard this time, and we interviewed six women's associations who spoke on June 3 last time, and 70% of the `` Rokure Islands Map '' We were able to supplement the shortage and inadequate points. In addition, one group of the circle asked women's associations to submit a questionnaire survey form on "life, events, and work on the island", which had previously requested and entrusted to women's associations. Valuable information and topics were written there, so I would like to organize and analyze it well and refer to it as a great reference.

For lunch, we served "Hijiki rice" from regional cuisine on the island with pickles of takuan and cucumber as a lunch box, and also enjoyed the alcohol pickling of sea urchins, the origin of Rokurejima and a specialty of the island. The students were happy to have a good taste. "Adult"'s impression is "perfect for sake!" That's right.

In the afternoon survey, fishermen in their 70s showed fresh "bafun sea urchins" just caught by underwater fishing, and the catch of sea urchins was reduced due to the effects of sea urchin fishing and global warming. I was told. On the island, who has been taken care of many times in the previous surveys, we will observe the work of carefully removing fresh sea urchins in cooperation with the third generation of family members, and directly learned a part of the making of processed products that take time. I was able to learn. Furthermore, thanks to that person, I was able to get on a fishing boat and go around the island and see the multifaceted scenery of the Roku Islands from the sea, including the back of the Roku Islands, so discover the charm of the new island I was able to do it.

This time again, on the way home, we also received souvenirs of cut flowers of eustoma and sardines, vegetables, as well as special abalones and turtles for household consumption. Thank you very much.

In the future, the circle will reorganize and reconsider what we have learned from the people of the Roku Islands through interviews and questionnaire surveys, and what we have examined in literature and materials on their own, and around mid-July. We will work toward the completion of the "Roku Islands Map". Also, a little ahead, we hope to be able to help with some kind of community development at events such as a tour of the Roku Islands Lighthouse Lighthouse scheduled for November 3.
