Creation of new knowledge based on the integrity of education and research

A university is a joint organization that aims to create new knowledge through which students and faculty members work together to create new knowledge. For this reason, teachers are required to have educational skills that can fully reflect their research results in their education. Students are also required to enhance their "learning ability" and demonstrate their vigorous research spirit, rather than staying in a passive attitude of receiving teaching. The university strives to create new knowledge by maintaining such a unity of education and research, enhancing teachers' education and research abilities and students' "learning skills" together.

Education and research centered on East Asia and the world

Shimonoseki, surrounded by the sea on three sides, has been a node of human and physical exchanges with the Korean Peninsula and the continent since ancient times. . By looking at Shimonoseki to East Asia and even the world, you can understand what structure today's international relations have and how it has been created. Taking advantage of this geographical advantage, we aim to deepen our understanding of how people interact and coexist in the international community, and to open up a new perspective.

Community-based education and research as an intellectual center for local communities

As a public university established in local cities, it is our important duty to contribute to the creation of rich communities. To this end, we believe that our education and research must be deeply rooted in the community. We think about various problems that local communities have with citizens and explore solutions. On the other hand, we will actively open and utilize the intellectual resources of the university in order to respond to citizens' lifelong learning. The university aims to become an intellectual center of the local community as such a "citizen's university," that is, a place for exchange and creation of knowledge that involves citizens.

The education and research of Shimonoseki City University is based on the above three principles.
