Conducted disaster prevention drills

On Wednesday, September 24, about 160 people participated in disaster prevention drills under the guidance of Shimonoseki City Fire Bureau North Fire Department. Under the disaster prevention agreement with the Daigakucho Autonomous Federation signed in 2009, local residents also participated.

Self-Defense Fire Brigade comprised of OIST staff members, including a fire-fighting team that conducts initial fire fighting at the fire site, the evacuation guidance team that guides people on the premises to the I-206 classroom on the second floor of the main building in evacuation site, and a rescue team carrying out emergency measuresfire incident.

Due to the effects of extratropical cyclone, which changed from Typhoon No. 16, fire drills using water fire extinguishers, water discharge training using indoor fire hydrants, and evacuation drills using evacuation equipment, which were scheduled to be conducted outdoors, were canceled. There were explanations on how to use fire extinguishers and indoor fire hydrants.

A staff member said, "The disaster that occurred in Hiroshima in August is not a fire on the other side of the river, but could also occur in Shimonoseki. In addition to preparing for a disaster on a regular basis, if a disaster occurs, I would like you to respond flexibly by combining "self-help, mutual assistance, and Kosuke ".
