The 8th Whale Library Symposium was held.

On October 31, 2015 (Saturday), at the large conference room of Shimonoseki City University Main Building II, "The 8th Whaling Symposium on Whaling with Maruha founder, Ikujiro Nakabe, and the prewar Minami-Hyoyo Whaling-Focusing on Chubu Family Materials-" Was held.

In the first part, entitled "Ikujiro Nakabe-From Akashi to Korea"-", Toshio Katayama, a teacher at Uozumi Higashi Junior High School in Akashi City, reported on the development of Hayashikane Shoten while following the footprints of Ikujiro Nakabe. . In addition, Mitsuhiro Kishimoto, a researcher commissioned by the Regional Co-creation Center attached to Shimonoseki City University, gave a report based on an analysis of materials donated to Gifu University entitled "What can be seen from Chubu Family Materials: Looking to the dawn of Hayashikane Shoten."

In the second part, a panel discussion was held with Mr. Yoshitaka Sato, a teacher at Yamaguchi Prefectural Ube High School (former curator at Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum) to the above two. Active opinions were exchanged on impressions, value of the materials, and expectations for the future regarding the Chubu family materials in the prewar South Ice Sea whaling, which were miraculously found in good condition.
Approximately 60 participants listened enthusiastically, and it was a fruitful symposium.
