The 9th Whale Reference Room Symposium was held.

On January 28, 2017 (Saturday), at the Shimonoseki City University Main Building I-206 classroom, the 9th Whale Reference Room Symposium "Chubu Family Material: South Ice Sea Whaling through the Nisshin Maru Loading Map and the Past of Whaling Mother Ship" Follow the present, and future "was held.

In the first part, entitled "Past, Present, and Future of Research Whaling Mother Ships", and Mr. So Ishikawa, director of the Whaling Laboratory, Shimonoseki Academy of Marine Sciences, reported based on his experience of boarding the Nisshin Maru. Mitsuhiro Kishimoto, a commissioned researcher at the Regional Co-creation Center, Shimonoseki City University, gave a report on the first Nisshin Maru, which was built before the war, based on the analysis of materials donated to NAIST.

In the second part, a panel discussion was held with Mr. Eiji Mori, President of Kyodo Ship Co., Ltd. to the above two people. After organizing the situation and issues of the aging Nisshin Maru, we discussed the future whaling and whale food culture while looking at the future prospects for the construction of a new whaling mother ship.
Approximately 60 participants listened enthusiastically, and it was a fruitful symposium.
