Research on the regional development of companies located in the Kanmon area

[Summary of Report]
In the Edo period, the Kanmon area flourished as a relay base on the westbound route (kitamae-bune) and a node of various highways to Kyushu in the Edo period, and since the Meiji era it prospered as a major transportation hub along with the extension of railway lines and the service of connecting ships. Many companies located in the Kanmon area of Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu have grown into a nationwide company along with their business development. While some of these companies are still based in the Kanmon area and conduct nationwide business, while positioning the Kanmon area as its founding place, there are companies that have entered Tokyo and Osaka.
In this study, we examined the regional development of companies located in the Kanmon area, firstly, the process of building inter-regional division of labor within the companies associated with the business development of each company. Second, we examined the utilization of resources left in the region along with the development of corporate activities, referring to similar port cities.
