[Research theme]
Research on regional development of companies located in the Kanmon area

[Summary of Report]
In the Edo period, the Kanmon area prospered as a relay base on the westbound route (kitamae-bune) and a junction on various highways to Kyushu. It has prospered as a major transportation hub since the Meiji era, along with the extension of railway lines and the launch of ferryboats. Many companies located in the Kanmon area of Shimonoseki and Kitakyushu have grown into a nationwide company along with their business development. Some of these companies are still based in the Kanmon area and conduct nationwide business, while others have advanced to Tokyo and Osaka while positioning the Kanmon area as their founding place. Some companies have gone.
In this study, regarding the regional development of companies located in the Kanmon area, firstly, we examined the process of building inter-regional division of labor relations associated with the business development of each company. Second, we examined the use of resources left in the region with the development of corporate activities with reference to similar port cities.
