The 8th Whale Reference Room Symposium was held.

On October 31, 2015 (Saturday), at the Shimonoseki City University Main Building II Large Conference Room, "The 8th Whale Reference Room Symposium Maruha founder Ikujiro Nakabe and the pre-war South Ice-Western Whaling with Maruha founder Ikujiro Nakabe and the pre-war South Ice-Western Whaling with the Chubu Family Materials ~ ".

In the first part, entitled "Ikujiro Nakabe-From Akashi to" Korea "", and Toshio Katayama, a teacher at Akashi City Uozumi Higashi Junior High School, reported on the development of Hayashikane Shoten while following the footsteps of Ikujiro Nakabe. . In addition, Mr. Mitsuhiro Kishimoto, a commissioned researcher at the Regional Co-creation Center, Shimonoseki City University, gave a report based on the analysis of materials donated to the university, entitled "What can be seen from the Chubu Family Documents: Looking at the dawn of Hayashikane Shoten-".

In Part 2, a panel discussion was held with Yoshitaka Sato, a teacher of Ube High School in Yamaguchi Prefectural Ube High School (former Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum curator) to the above two people. Active opinions were exchanged on their impressions, the value of the materials, and what is expected in the future regarding the Chubu family materials in the pre-war South Ice Sea whaling, which were miraculously found in good condition.
