On October 26 (Wednesday), an open lecture on the Citizens' University Open Lecture “The Front Line for Effective Utilization of Unused Whale Areas-Academia Initiatives Aiming for Commercialization” was launched online.
Dr. Whale and Professor KISHIMOTO Mitsuhiro, a professor at Faculty of Economics, gave lectures on the history and present conditions of whaling and the use of whale oil.
In the course, in the history of whaling in Japan originally had a culture of using captured whales, but while commercial whaling stopped, research and development of technology on the effective use of whales also stopped. He mentioned the situation where industry, government and academia collaborated to promote various demonstration tests and product development were introduced.
In the fall semester of 2022, we are planning to open a total of three courses, and we are still recruiting students for Courses 2 and 3 (all courses will be online for 2022).
