On October 26 (Wednesday), an online public lecture entitled "The Frontline for Effective Utilization of Unused Whaling Sites-Industry-Academia Aiming for Commercialization-" was held at Civic University.
Professor KISHIMOTO Mitsuhiro, Professor Faculty of Economics, gave lectures on the history and current situation of whaling and the history of use of whale oil, and the latest information on the utilization of unused whales other than whale meat, such as whale oil and whale bones.
In the course, in the history of whaling in Japan, there was a culture of using all the captured whales, but while commercial whaling was stopped, research and development of technologies on the effective use of whales were also stopped. He touched on the situation, and introduced a case where industry, government and academia collaborated to promote various demonstration tests and product development.
In the fall semester of 2022, we are planning to open a total of three courses, and we are still recruiting students for courses 2 and 3 (all courses will be online for FY2022).
