Shimonoseki City University's Uninterrupted Challenge

　For the future recognized by everyone as Shimonoseki City University, we are now in the midst of unprecedented challenges. With the understanding and support of many people, we will serve as President for the second term, and we are renewing our determination for the future.

Our university has been steadily creating a new swell of history under the slogan SCU Vision 2040. Based on the three pillars of "creating a future society", "co-creating with the local community", and "co-creating with the international community", we are working to solve social issues as a base of knowledge rooted in the community, and eventually we are working on reforms to become a university that stands alongside the world. In its 64th year, Faculty of Data Science and Faculty of Nursing have been reborn as a comprehensive university.Research Organization, and University Research Administration Office have been accelerated to build a foundation to ensure the quality of education and research beyond merely expanding the university scale. The results are also reflected in domestic and overseas evaluations, and I feel a solid response to various university rankings and application ratios.

As a new challenge for the second term, we promise to work together with local IT companies to develop IT human resources and solve regional issues. In addition, through joint research centered on industry-government-academia-government collaboration, we will create a system that can quickly carry out data collection and analysis to reflection in measures, aiming for social implementation rooted in the local situation, and also challenge world-class research that can contribute to international contexts. We will enter the agricultural sector, where the shortage of workers is becoming increasingly serious due to the aging of society, start developing human resources for regional agriculture through an agreement with the Kyrgyz National Agricultural University, and actively promote the conclusion of inter-university cooperation agreements with countries such as France, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.

In an era of intense and uncertain change, we choose not to “trace someone” but to “open up our own path” by raising the flag of “unnecked challenge”. Aiming for the cloud on the hill, we will create the future of Shimonoseki City University with the determination to continue to be a pioneer who carved footprints on the road without roads.
